Once again, the last London Dog Event of 2018 for us here at The Dogvine was the Windmill Clapham Dog Christmas Jumper Competition (read all about last year’s comp here). Now in it’s 4th year, the Dog Christmas Jumper Competition at this stylish Clapham drinking spot (and boutique hotel) is held every year in aid of dogs in need at Battersea.
Host of the competition is resident pub dog Max, a Bernese Mountain Dog who is a local celebrity having been featured in the Great British Pub Dogs book and having his own sign outside the pub. Of course Max led by example sporting his own Christmas Jumper for the event – a men’s XXL jumper no less to give you an idea of his majestic size.
This year we’d been invited along to guest judge along with sponsors of the competition Woofs to Kittys and British Comedian Luisa Omielan who brought along her own beautiful Bernese Mountain Dog (and we suspect Max’s girlfriend) Bernie.
The dog and human turnout for the Windmill Clapham Dog Christmas Jumper Competition this year was definitely higher as was the standard of the entries! From reindeers to angel winged ballerinas and even a dog present under the (human) tree, London dogs and humans were definitely dressed to impress….
The Dogs of the Windmill Clapham Dog Christmas Jumper Competition
And The Winners of the 4th Annual Windmill Clapham Dog Christmas Jumper Competition Are…
Handsome Labradoodle Stanley kept it simple but stylish to take home third place this year.
Dancing her way into second place was lovely Sharpei Lila who also happens to speak Spanish…clearly a very talented girl.
The very deserving winners of first place were Bambi and Doodles, two rescues who made sure to spread the very important message of a ‘dog is for life not just for Christmas’ with their amazingly creative costume. How adorable are these two!
Judging was so hard (and yes we know that’s a cliché, but it really was hard), but for us every dog was a winner (cliché #2 but it’s true). In that spirit every dog who entered, took home a prize from Woofs to Kittys.
And don’t worry, if you didn’t get to come and show off your doggy Christmas Jumper best, then put the last weekend of the year for the 5th Annual Windmill Clapham Christmas Dog Jumper Competition in your doggy diaries for next year!
Before you go…
Clapham Canine Tip: Visit the Woof to Kittys Shop (78 Taybridge Rd, London SW11 5PZ) if you get a chance, it’s an absolute treasure trove (and our favourite) for natural healthy dog treats and owner Anita is super knowledgeable about which treats are good for older dogs etc. Don’t leave without buying a ‘Pizzle’ – no, we didn’t know what that was either but now we do and the dogs love them even if I cringe a little every time I buy one. We’ll let you discover for yourself what it is.
