Staying home doesn’t mean you have to miss out on all the fun, especially the dog event fun! Generally, around this time of the year, our Dog Events Calendar would be filling up with lots of dog shows, meet-ups and other fun things to do with your dog outdoors. Of course, in-person events have been postponed or cancelled for the foreseeable future, but as Boris Johnson would say ‘thanks to the wizardry of modern technology’, plenty of virtual dog events are springing up to join in on from the comfort of your sofa at home.
It’s worth remembering that many animal charities, large and small, rely on their dog events and dog shows as an essential source of fundraising income. Having that disappear overnight will put a massive dent in their resources and in turn, their ability to support dogs and animals in need. Likewise for Charities supporting vulnerable communities and people in need, so supporting these virtual events is a great way to donate and have some fun at the same time.
As well as Charity events, there are also a host of virtual online meet-ups taking place, mainly in the breed-specific space so far but we’ve no doubt we’ll see more and more of these being announced over the next few weeks too. Most of the virtual online dog meet-ups are held on Zoom and allow for up to 100 participants at a time, so it’s a great way to stay social in these strange times.
There’s even a virtual festival for dogs (and cats) planned in aid of StreetVet – we can’t wait to see what’s on the line-up for that!
And don’t worry, we’ll be adding more virtual dog events to our Events Calendar as we hear about them so do check regularly to see what’s on if you’re looking for something else to do.

Support Dogs is a registered national charity dedicated to increasing independence and quality of life for people with various medical conditions. We provide, train and support specialist assistance dogs to achieve this.
We specialise in three specific programmes:
- Autism assistance dogs for children with autism. The dogs are trained to provide safety for the child and reduce stress in social environments. You can read more about this programme here
- Seizure alert dogs for people with epilepsy. Our dogs are trained to provide a 100% reliable, up to 50-minute warning prior to the onset of an epileptic seizure. This enables the client to find safety and be in control over their seizure, allowing a much more independent life. You can read more about this programme here
- Disability assistance dogs for people with physical disabilities. The client’s own pet dog is trained to perform tasks which are specifically tailored to their individual needs; providing them with greater independence and safety. You can read more about this programme here
Established in 1992 Support Dogs works across England, Scotland and Wales and provides all it services entirely free of charge to those in need of them. However, the charity relies solely on voluntary donations and receives no government funding.

Join in the Raystede Virtual Fun Dog Show to raise money for the animals at this rescue centre, as featured in our Virtual Dog Events roundup.
Are you currently stuck at home with your four-legged friend? If so, why not give them a treat and enter them into Raystede’s Virtual Fun Dog Show?
Due to the coronavirus outbreak, Raystede is currently shut to visitors and losing a whopping £1,000 every single day they are closed! So Raystede needs our help more than ever to raise enough money to look after the 400 animals that are at the centre.
So, why not enter your pooch into the Raystede Virtual Fun Dog Show? All you need to do is:
1. Click on THIS LINK to enter them into one of the below categories. After clicking on this link make sure you scroll right down to the bottom of the page and pick the category that you’d like to enter, putting the number of entries you’d like into the box before clicking continue.
2. Send your photos or videos to fundraising@raystede.org. Please make sure you put the category you’re entering, into the ‘Subject’ box in the email. You can send one photo/video for each category and If you could send separate emails for each category you’ve entered into that would be great.
(Please note your photos and videos may be shared with The Argus for them to publish.)
The Raystede online Fun Dog Show will stay open until the 30th of April. All the entries will then be judged and there will be a winner and two runners up in each category. All winners and runners up will receive a special Raystede rosette and a little goody bag.
Each entrant will also automatically be entered into the ‘Best In Show’ category. If your dog wins the ‘Best in Show’ they will receive a unique Raystede rosette, a goody bag, a signed copy of Noel Fitzpatrick’s recent book as well as a very generous prize offered by photographer, Zoltan Attila Kecskes.
Zoltan came 2nd in the 2019 Kennel Club photographer of the year and is donating his ‘Option 2 Portrait Package’ (which is usually worth £150) to the winner of the Best in Show, which includes a free photo session gift card and 10 of your favourite digital images. You can view Zoltan’s incredible work and wonderful photos by visiting his website.
Raystede Virtual Fun Dog Show Categories
It’s £4 to enter your dog into one of the below categories:
- Most Appealing Eyes
- Biggest Smile
- Shiniest Coat
- Worst At Social Distancing
- Best Party Trick
- Waggiest Tail
You can either send a photo or a video for each category, although it may be easier to judge ‘Best Party Trick’ and ‘Waggiest Tail’ if you send a video.

About Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare
In the 1930’s a lady called Miss M Raymonde-Hawkins purchased a cottage with a small patch of land just outside of Lewes in East Sussex. A former headmistress with deep compassion for animals, she left the education sector to establish Raystede as an animal charity in 1952.
In the early days, the charity was based in her cottage and back garden. But right from the start, she pledged to provide facilities that were equal to or better than existing animal rescue centres.
Fast forward six decades and the vision behind Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare remains as strong and impassioned as it did when Miss Raymonde-Hawkins began her campaign to give unwanted and abandoned animals a better life. Today the site has expanded across 43 acres where over 2000 animals a year are cared for, over 1000 animals a year are rehomed and sanctuary is provided to even more. Raystede are one of the most diverse rescue centres in the UK because they care for so many different species of animals.

Were you looking forward to attending one of the many dog events happening at this time of year but can’t because we’re all staying at home, to protect the NHS and help save lives? Well don’t worry, you can still join in on the dog event fun with a series of virtual dog events and in this case, the first-ever Virtual Cockapoo Café – as featured in our Virtual Dog Events roundup.
Hosted by Pug Café, well known for their breed-specific events in London and around the UK, the Cockapoo Café is a recent addition to the line-up and it’s now gone virtual! Here’s what the organisers have to say about the event…
“Cockapoo Cafe has not long started, but without our growing community of Cockapoo owners and lovers we’d not be able to host all our pop-ups. So, we want to do something in return, and try to bring everyone together.
It could be chaos, it could ALL go wrong (we’re assuming mass barking) … but I’m sure it’s going to be a lot of fun trying!
We’ll host the event, and try to have a little running order including giving you the chance to introduce yourselves (if you want!), show us your fur babies, if anyone’s Cockapoo has a good party trick up their paw, Impressive TikTok dance to showcase or anything fun then let us know in advance.
Because our Cockapoos have undoubtedly provided comfort to all of us recently, let’s also spoil them to a Cockapoo Cafe-style treat, too!
Whether you want to feed them their favourite snack, do some baking in advance, or feed them a puppuccino (squirty cream!) at home. Get their favourite treat ready because when we say READY, STEADY, EAT… we’ll have a mass tuck in!
Don’t forget to grab yourself a cuppa and a cake too. Or wine or a beer.
The first meet will be for Cockapoo Owners, but we’ll try to allow Dog Lover attendees to join too. It’s limited to 100 attendees in total so make sure you’re ready to join on Sunday. As people join and leave, you’ll be in a queue to Join so if you can’t join at first, hang on in there!

Own a chihuahua? Then the Haus Party Sessions is one Virtual Chihuahua Party you’ll want to be a part of – as featured in our Virtual Dog Events roundup.
Kicking off with a friendly ‘get to know you’ session Haus of Chihuahuas invites chihuahua owning friends, followers and fans to join us at our very first virtual ‘Haus Party Sessions Virtual Chihuahua Party’.
Haus of Chi will be bringing their own pack along to meet you and yours – many of whom we will already know from our signature Fest of Chihuahuas events which have sadly been put on hold whilst the UK fights the Corona Virus Pandemic.
BUT, that’s not stopping us. We will bring various industry professionals on board over the coming weeks to help beat the boredom and have some fun!
You can interact as much or a little as you feel comfortable with, we’re just happy to see little Chihuahua faces on the screen!
At the moment, the Haus Party Sessions are held on Zoom and can host up to 100 people at once so please spread this to everyone you know with a chihuahua so we can help lift each other’s spirits during this difficult time! Don’t worry if you’re zoom-phobic. You can just sit and listen if this is what you’d rather. However, we are all a friendly bunch and this is a first for everyone so please don’t fear!

Join PAAW House for a PAAWstival – a PAAWsome virtual festival on three Sundays over the May bank holiday weekends, full of fun & entertainment for you and your pets in aid of StreetVet (a charity made up of volunteer vets who look after the dogs of the homeless) and their friends – as featured in our Virtual Dog Events roundup.
The charities PAAW House supports rely heavily on fundraising events, all of which have been understandably cancelled for the foreseeable future, but that’s not going to stop us getting together in the virtual world and rocking the lockdown!
The full line up will be announced over the coming weeks including interactive games and challenges, talks/demos from experts in the pet world, a sprinkle of comedy, competitions, and lots of music.
PAAWstival will take place on 10 and 24 May – line-up announcements and updates to follow closer to each date (see below). If you are interested in getting involved or joining the line up drop a note to info@paaw.house.
