Stunning Sunday Roasts With Your Dog At South Place Hotel

If you’ve enjoyed reading our features on the dog-friendly Afternoon Teas at South Place Hotel London, then you’ll be pleased to hear that South Place Hotel is back with another doggy dining experience at their weekly Sunday Roasts. Humans can tuck into a tasty Sunday Roast whilst pups can enjoy a doggy menu of Sunday Snacks, every weekend until the end of March next year.

We were invited along to South Place Hotel just before lockdown to sample the Sunday Roasts and Doggy Menu for ourselves, and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

Sunday Roasts at are served in the South Place Chop House on the ground floor, or if you are socialising with others outside your bubble, you can dine on the Chop House Terrace or in the stunning South Place Hotel Secret Garden. Thanks to the retractable rain roof, the Secret Garden is classed as outside space even with the roof on, so this means that whilst we are in Tier 2 restrictions, you can still dine with people outside of your household.

Either way, eating out at dog-friendly South Place Hotel is a great option during this period of socialising restrictions.

From our previous visits for the dog-friendly Afternoon Tea experience at South Place Hotel, we knew just how gorgeous the Secret Garden is, so that was naturally our first choice.

Aside from being an impressive dining space, the seasonally flower-themed roof behind the Secret Garden name, is what gives it the wow factor. The roof arrangement is changed to suit the seasons, and it really is a work of art.

As soon as we arrived, Belinha recognised that this was the place where all her doggy dining dreams come true and practically demanded that a selection of treats be served immediately, which thanks to the helpful staff, they were.

After the success of the Doggy Afternoon Teas, once again South Place Hotel has partnered with Barking Bakery to make sure pups don’t miss out. For just £5 your dog can tuck into a selection of delicious mini pupcakes and dog biscuits and be thoroughly spoilt, just as they deserve. And there’s more than enough to take home for later if doggy waistlines need to be watched (as does Belinha’s).

The South Place Hotel staff were extremely attentive and made sure Belinha had everything she needed to enjoy the experience, bringing out a large, comfortable dog bed and water to go with her treats. Water bowls were also available in the lobby, and all the staff made a fuss of her as we walked through the hotel, certainly living up to South Place’s pet-friendly policy.

The staff are also very relaxed about dogs joining you on the sofa or chairs. However, it’s polite dog-friendly etiquette to bring along a blanket for your dog to sit on, which we always do as Belinha visibly protests at being asked to sit on a cold floor (not that she’s a diva or anything).

The Sunday Roasts with your dog are not just all about our four-legged friends, even if our pups think they should be. Humans can enjoy a delicious Sunday Roast Chicken or Roast Beef with all the trimmings for just £20pp, and if you’d like to make an occasion of it, you can add free-flowing red wine for an additional £20pp or unlimited bubbles for £18pp.

My partner tells me the chicken was simply delicious – as a vegetarian, I will take his word for it. I opted for the Red Lentil Burger with Triple Cooked Chips from the main menu which had an unexpected spicy kick to it, no doubt thanks to the tasty sweet mango and coconut yoghurt garnish.

Of course, we couldn’t resist dessert, so we finished off with the Sticky Toffee Pudding, which was the perfect end to our meal.

As I said at the beginning, South Place Hotel’s latest doggy dining experience didn’t disappoint, in fact, quite the opposite as we left promising to come back soon which Belinha will be very happy to hear. Whilst we do love a good Sunday Roast at the pub, this is definitely a more elegant and relaxing take on the Sunday Roast experience that you can really enjoy with your pup.
