International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day

Hot on the heels (or paws in this case) of Valentines Day and Love Your Pet Day is the day of a dogs dreams…International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day on 23rd February. It seems the origins of this day are not known but no doubt every pooch gives lots of canine kudos to whoever came up with it.

Of course your dog will love to get some extra treats to mark this important international day but why not bake them some love by making your own. This is a great alternative to commercial biscuits especially for dogs with allergies as you get to control what goes into the biscuits to ensure your dog is getting a nutritious treat.

So to celebrate International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day, we decided to share some resources to help you make some pawsome treats…

Lily’s Kitchen Lilyland Blog

London’s Natural and Organic Dog Food company Lily’s Kitchen not only produce delicious natural dog food and treats (which the Dogvine Crew love) but they also have healthy treat recipes from simple recipes such as dried apple rings to the more substantial cheesy breakfast bars for you to try on their Lilyland Blog.

Puppy Leaks Blog

I am a big fan of this round-up from our friends Jen and Laika over at Puppy Leaks: 19 Simple Dog Treat Recipes – Five Ingredients or Less. As someone who is not a great cook, the fact that these none of these recipes have no more than five ingredients does not make me break out into my usual panic at the word recipe.

If cooking is really not your thing then at least be informed when you buy. A site I often refer to when researching commercial dog food and treats is All About Dog Food from canine nutritionist David Jackson. It’s great to find a site that cuts to the chase, breaking down the ingredients and make-up of commercial dog food and treats. It also has an easy to understand rating system by which to compare them.

I’m so glad to know I’m not alone when I panic at the word ‘recipe.’ I always assume the worst is going to happen in the kitchen lol. Thanks so much for the shot out. This is a day all dogs can be really happy about – who doesn’t love a good home made treat?

I love a good home-made treat as long as it’s someone else doing the cooking! Hopefully the dogs won’t notice my poor culinary skills!
