For a real ‘dine with your dog treat’, we recently discovered the delicious doggy tapas on the menu at Dog-friendly Brindisa Battersea at Battersea Power Station.
If you’ve been reading the Dogvine for a while, you’ll know that we do love a good dog menu. In fact, I would say that being taken to a dog-friendly restaurant where there are treats on the menu for our four-legged friends is guaranteed to make Belinha’s day. So much so, we have a complete guide to where you can dine with your dog in London and of course taking your dog for tapas, is included.
But let’s get back to those doggy tapas. When you least expect it, you come across a real gem of a dog-friendly find, and this is definitely one of those. So we simply had to share as we’re sure lots of of other doggos would love to tuck into some tapas too.
Brindisa Battersea is part of the Brindisa group which also has restaurants in Soho, Borough, Shoreditch and South Kensington but only the Battersea one is dog-friendly. When I asked why that was, the manager explained to me that although Brindisa loves dogs, the size of the other restaurants don’t lend themselves to being dog-friendly.
Battersea however, is a larger restaurant in the new Battersea Power Station development. As it’s just a stone’s throw from Battersea Park, it made sense for this restaurant to be dog-friendly and to have doggy tapas on the menu too!
The bar area at the front of the restaurant is where dogs are welcomed. Belinha and her little friend Lilliput the Maltese went along on a weekday lunchtime, and we all had plenty of space to relax. However, I imagine this may well be different at the weekend when it gets busy.
The human food was simply delicious and really authentic – taking me back to many summers spent in Spain in just a few bites. However, the real treat has to be for the dogs…
To start with, the dogs were offered the ‘Perritos Tapas Basket’ with doggy biscuits and other treats, plus a blanket to sit on the floor/a seat and a bowl of water. For those who don’t know, Perritos is the diminutive of Perros or dog in Spanish which just added to the charm.
In our opinion, this was already far exceeding the dog-friendly welcome most places extend but then it got even better when our waitress offered us the dog menu.
OH MY DOG! On the menu was a choice of cooked doggy tapas – ‘Arroz con Pollo’ (Bomba Rice with Chicken) or ‘Huevos Rotos con Bacon’ (Broken eggs on potatoes and bacon). I just knew Belinha was going to be over the moon at this turn of events!
I decided to choose the Huevos Rotos con Bacon for Madam as I knew this would be a real treat for Belinha. I will pre-empt what some of you may be thinking by saying this is definitely not something I would feed my dogs regularly, but we all deserve a treat now and then, don’t we?
When the doggy tapas arrived it looked delicious and good enough for us humans to eat. In fact, apart from the fact that it was served in a red spotty dog bowl, it could have easily been a human dish.
Belinha is now very used to sitting patiently and posing for photos for the blog. However, all that goes out of the window when there’s a doggy dish in front of her. Lilliput behaved like the doggy model pro that she is and didn’t touch the tapas.
But as soon as Belinha got involved, the temptation was just too much and the doggy tapas devoured. Poor Lilliput didn’t even get a look in or a taste!
Safe to say, doggy tapas were a resounding success! And then we got a pleasant surprise too when it was time to pay for the bill. I pointed out to the waitress that they had forgotten to charge us for the doggy tapas but turns out they are complimentary for dogs dining with their humans…how lovely is that!
All we can say to finish is that this has to be one of London’s dog-friendly hidden gems! Brindisa Battersea is certainly going the extra mile to treat London doggos so we think they deserve our support. And your if your dog could speak, they would say they definitely deserved a doggy tapas treat!
