Last week we tried out one of the dog friendly places that’s been on our list to visit for quite some time: Cafe Tamra in Clapham. Cafe Tamra is a delightful independent neighbourhood cafe on the Northcote Road, nestled amongst the more familiar chains that now dominate the area.
It’s a bright colourful place and it’s obvious as soon as you walk through the door that somebody here loves dogs – the pictures on the wall (and even the cushions) say it all.

Cafe Tamra serves a delicious eclectic mix of food with a Mediterranean and Moroccan focus. If you’re a vegetarian like me, don’t worry there’s also a good selection to choose from. We went for lunch but judging by the menu, this is a great place for weekend breakfast or brunch too.

Aside from the great food, Tamra is dog-friendly which was the main reason for our visit. We heard a rumour that the cafe is named after their own dog but this remains unconfirmed as we sadly didn’t get to meet the hound in question.
Cafe Tamra has both outdoor (at the front) and indoor seating and dogs are allowed inside as long as they are well-behaved. The dog policy is displayed on the door which is great, as it means non dog-owners know that they may be joined by a friendly pooch on the next table.

Although not a large place, there is a good amount of seating. However, if you have a pooch who likes his space, this is probably not the best place to bring them due to the layout of the tables and your close proximity to your fellow diners.
All of the staff were lovely, going out of their way to be welcoming and immediately bringing over a water bowl and a plate of treats for Belinha which was a really nice touch. They also made a big fuss of her but then again who wouldn’t? Or maybe I’m just biased.

The food is delicious (yes, I know I mentioned that already), prices are reasonable and there is a good selection of coffees and cakes to finish things off.

Throw in the free wi-fi and it’s a Paws Up from us for Cafe Tamra!
Contact Details: 63 Northcote Road, SW11 4NP. Tel: 020 7223 4894. Website: No website but there is a Facebook Page where you can see the menu and lots of photos of their canine customers.

Thank you for writing such a lovely post on our little cafe. I can confirm that Cafe Tamra is named after my 10 year old Vizsla, Tamra, who was there today making sure all our pooches and their owners were well looked after, along with her little sister, Leelu.
We are big foodies, love dogs, and have always struggled to find eateries which allow dogs in…like many other dog owners, hence Cafe Tamra was born in Sept 2009.
As well the space out front, we have a lovely garden at the back, which opens for the summer months. Doggies are welcome throughout (other than the kitchen 🙂 ).
Hope to see you there, again, soon.
Tamra & Leelu.

Wow! That restaurant is beautifully decorated. You would never think that it was such a dog friendly environment from the looks of it. Love that they let you bring the dog inside. There should be more places like this!

The owners are dog owners/lovers and wanted to create an equally welcoming space for dogs and their humans, which they did! We’ll be sniffing around town to find more dog friendly cafes and restaurants so watch this space!
