We can hardly believe it’s August already…where has the summer (and the sun) gone already?! Well, sun or no sun…it’s time for our next instalment of ‘What’s On Woofs’ and our London Dog Events in August round-up is all about ‘four-legged festival fever’.
There’s a chance to go retro at the Visions Festival with the Bowie, Prince and Lemmy themed dog show, attempt to break a world record at the Fest of Chihuahuas or show your ‘suppawt’ for a festival with a cause at the Woofstock Festival. And in case that sun does make a late summer appearance, you and your canine can cool off at the Dogs Trust ‘It’s Cool To Be Kind’ event.
Happy August and we hope you and your pooch get into the festival spirit this month…enjoy!
Visions Festival Dog Show – Saturday 6th August
First up this month is the Visions Festival Dog Show which will be held as part of the (you guessed it) Visions Festival in Hackney. The highlight of the dog show will definitely be the retro themed Best Fancy Dressed category…pups are you ready to let out your inner Bowie, Prince or Lemmy? If dressing up is not your thing, not to worry there’s also Best Dog, Cutest Pup (always an ‘aww’ moment in that one), Best Trick and Waggiest Tail.
Entry is £5 and there are lots of pawsome prizes on offer plus all proceeds go to the wooferful All Dogs Matter.
WoofStock Festival – Sunday 7th August
The WoofStock Festival is an ONLINE and LIVE music festival with a heart. The festival has been organised to raise awareness (and funds of course) for Many Tears Animal Rescue. Taking place at ‘Off The Cuff’* in Herne Hill this will be a ‘pawtastic’ event for live music lovers with a soft spot for our four-legged friends. Current confirmed acts include: Mcreary & Lane, Josef Pitura-Riley, Charlie Carter plus The Woofstock Houseband and special guests.
And if you can’t make it to the event, WoofStock will be broadcasting live through the Woofstock website via YouTube. All the acts at WoofStock are giving their time for free so every £1 raised from the event will go to help Many Tears Animal Rescue.
* Off the Cuff is a dog-friendly venue so dogs are welcome but there will be live music playing so please bear this in mind for the comfort of your dog.
It’s Cool to Be Kind – Saturday 13th August
On 13th August, ‘It’s Cool To Be Kind’ will be taking over Parliament Hill on Hampstead Heath. Organised by Dogs Trust this event will be promoting the important message of keeping your dog cool and the dangers of your pet overheating, To help cool things down, the Dogs Trust ice cream van will be on hand giving out free ice-cream and free iced Frozzy’s treats for dogs. There will also be free microchipping for dogs and free face painting and balloon animals for the kids.
Fest of Chihuahuas – Saturday 20th August
If you have a soft spot for a chihuahua then this event is for you. Hundreds of ‘chi-owners’ and their pooches will be descending on the beautiful the Colston Hall, Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire for the ‘Fest of Chihuahuas’ on 20th August – the UK’s biggest chihuahua festival. We know it’s not strictly a London Dog Event but it is only 19 minutes from London by train and it definitely sounds like it’s going to be ‘woof’ it!
Chihuahua’s and their humans will be attempting to beat the Guinness World Record for the ‘largest ever dog yoga class’ on the day. The current record was set in Hong Kong by 270 dogs and their flexible owners…will the UK be able to knock Hong Kong of it’s top spot?
There will also be lots of activities to take part in, including a fun dog show (tickets include entry into one category in the dog show) and everyone attending will receive their very own commemorative Chihuahua Pawtrait photo. Instagram stars Rocco and Indie (@hausofchihuahuas) will be on paw for selfies and social media shout outs too.
Fest of Chihuahuas is being held in association with Chihuahua Rescue UK.
We hope you enjoyed our London Dog Events in August round-up. Our What’s On Woofs Calendar lists all the London Dog Events for each month as we hear about them. And if you have a London Dog Event you’d like us to woof about, drop us a line and we’ll add it to the list.
